This webinar will be presented by Shi Deng, who is an Engineering student at AUT that has been working on the integration of renewable energy technology into marae infrastructure, with support from ESR.
Abstract
This presentation explores the techno-economic feasibility of integrating renewable energy systems into marae infrastructure in New Zealand. Marae are culturally significant community spaces that often face increasing electricity costs and energy resilience challenges. The project investigates several renewable energy configurations, including solar PV, micro-wind turbines, battery storage, and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) technologies.
Using MATLAB-based modelling and Auckland renewable resource data, the study compares the technical performance and economic viability of different system scenarios. The research also considers Māori sustainability values such as kaitiakitanga and examines how renewable energy systems can support community resilience, cultural sustainability, and long-term energy independence.
