Abstract

Modern slavery refers to severe forms of exploitation such as forced labour, debt bondage, and human trafficking, practices that can be hidden deep within both global and local construction supply chains. For construction professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand, understanding modern slavery is an important and emerging area of legal compliance, responsible procurement, and ethical professional practice.

Drawing on his extensive experience across engineering, strategy, and government procurement, Dr Seán Barnes will explore:

  • What modern slavery is and what you need to know
  • The New Zealand Modern Slavery Bill and its implications
  • Modern slavery risks in construction – understanding risk and how to take simple, proportionate action
  • Q+A

This webinar will be of interest to construction professionals including engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, contractors, developers, procurement specialists, and sustainability practitioners. Attendees will gain insight into the growing professional, legal, and societal expectations around human rights in the buildings and infrastructure we help deliver.
