Abstract

Considering the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ESR members consider that there are serious issues with the proposed approach outlined in Ministry for the Environment discussion document, “New Zealand’s second emissions reduction plan”.

ESR’s submission to the discussion document “New Zealand’s second emissions reduction plan” will be presented by two of its authors. The submission can be viewed on our website (click the button above). The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and a discussion of next steps.

 

About the speakers

DR THOMAS NEITZERT - is a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering of Auckland University of Technology. He held various leadership positions in industry and academia in New Zealand as well as overseas. He is a past president and currently the treasurer of Engineers for Social Responsibilities Inc. and the secretary of the Wise Response Society Inc.

DR PETER WHITMORE - Peter Whitmore studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, and later obtained a doctorate in this subject at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. His work experience has included time in research and development facilities relating first to the manufacture of glass and glass-related products, and then to the recovery and processing of metals. Later, he and his wife started and ran their own business. Since around 2010 he has been strongly involved in issues relating to addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
